FAQs
Maison Romaan — Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What makes handcrafted or artisanal perfumes different from commercial designer fragrances?
Artisanal perfumes are crafted in small batches with higher fragrance oil concentrations, premium natural extracts, and careful attention to scent architecture. Unlike mass-produced commercial perfumes diluted for mass appeal, handcrafted fragrances offer distinct depth, unique character, and a richer evolving scent performance on the skin.
2. What concentration of fragrance oil do you use, and how long does the scent last?
Our perfumes are formulated as Eau de Parfum (EDP) or Extrait de Parfum, containing a high oil concentration of 20% to 30%. Because of this higher concentration, you can expect our fragrances to last between 8 to 12 hours on the skin and even longer on fabrics.
3. What is maceration, and why does my perfume get better over time?
Maceration is the natural aging process where fragrance oils and alcohol rest together to fully bond. Handcrafted perfumes continue to mature even after bottling. Over a few weeks, the initial alcohol sharpness softens, the scent notes harmonize, and both longevity and projection improve noticeably.
4. Why does the same perfume smell slightly different on different people?
Fragrance performance is uniquely personal. Your skin's natural pH, moisture level, body chemistry, temperature, and even diet interact directly with the perfume oils, creating a personalized signature scent that varies subtly from person to person.
5. How should I apply my perfume for maximum longevity and projection?
Apply your fragrance directly to warm pulse points—such as your wrists, neck, behind the ears, and inner elbows. For the best results:
-
Apply on well-moisturized skin (or right after a warm shower).
-
Never rub your wrists together after spraying, as friction breaks down the top notes faster.
-
Lightly mist your clothing or hair for an extended scent trail.
6. Are your fragrances suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, our formulations prioritize high-quality ingredients and safe carrier alcohols. However, because handcrafted perfumes contain rich natural oils and botanical extracts, we always recommend conducting a quick patch test on your inner forearm before full application if you have sensitive skin.
7. How should I store my perfume, and what is its shelf life?
Store your bottles in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity (avoid keeping them in the bathroom). When stored properly, handcrafted perfumes maintain their beauty and integrity for 3 to 5 years or longer.
8. Are Maison Romaan fragrances unisex?
Scents have no gender boundaries. While some compositions lean floral/sweet or woody/spicy, all our artisanal creations are designed for anyone who appreciates fine fragrance artistry. We encourage you to wear whatever scent profile resonates with your personal style.
9. Why might the color or clarity of the liquid vary slightly between batches?
Small variations in liquid color or intensity are normal in handcrafted perfumery. Because we utilize natural essential oils, resins, and spice extracts, harvest seasonal changes can subtly influence the hue of the liquid without altering the scent quality or performance.
10. What should I do if my perfume smells harsh or alcoholic right after spraying?
When first sprayed, the fine alcohol carrier evaporates rapidly to diffuse the top notes. Allow the fragrance 30 to 60 seconds to settle on your skin. As the initial spray dissipates, the heart and base notes will unfold into a smooth, luxurious scent profile.
